Volunteer

Equus is always in need of responsible volunteers. Would you like to:

If so, please contact our program director at

(413) 841-2709, or by e-mail.

Volunteers are welcome at Equus whether or not they have prior horse experience. Volunteering with us is a great way to learn new skills, get exercise, meet people, and have fun--all while helping both the special riders and the horses.

Although volunteers perform a wide range of activities for the program, most find that the heart and soul of vounteering is in working directly with the horses and riders.

Some details for potential volunteers:

The usual minimum age for volunteering in lessons is 14; exceptions may be made for younger people who demonstrate enthusiasm and dependability. There is no upper age limit for volunteers.

The main physical requirement is the ability to walk at a steady pace for a minimum of 45 minutes. Most volunteers are also able to keep up with a horse going at a slow to medium trot.

High school students with community service requirements are welcome at Equus, as are college students who qualify for work/study.
