Equus is always in need of responsible volunteers. Would you like to:
- Lead horses or sidewalk in lessons?
- Groom and tack horses for lessons or special events?
- Clean tack, wash saddle pads?
- Organize files?
- Help us raise funds?
If so, please contact Jenna Gancarz, our Volunteer Coordinator, at 413-281-7531.
Volunteers are welcome at Equus whether or not they have prior horse experience. Volunteering with us is a great way to learn new skills, get exercise, meet people, and have fun--all while helping both the special riders and the horses.
Although volunteers perform a wide range of activities for the program, most find that the heart and soul of vounteering is in working directly with the horses and riders.
Some details for potential volunteers:
The usual minimum age for volunteering in lessons is 14; exceptions may be made for younger people who demonstrate enthusiasm and dependability. There is no upper age limit for volunteers.
The main physical requirement is the ability to walk at a steady pace for a minimum of 45 minutes. Most volunteers are also able to keep up with a horse going at a slow to medium trot.
High school students with community service requirements are welcome at Equus, as are college students who qualify for work/study. We can also work with college students on summer internships.
Your tax-deductible donation will help us continue to make Equus Therapeutic, Inc., a viable program for riders with special needs.
Two ways you can help:
1. Sponsor a rider.
"Walk" Level: $25 (sponsors one Equus rider for one week).
"Trot" Level: $200 (sponsors one Equus rider for eight weeks).
"Canter" Level: $1,300 (sponsors one Equus rider for one year).
2. Sponsor a horse.
"Bronze" Level: $500 (sponsors one Equus horse for one month).
"Silver" Level: $3,000 (sponsors one Equus horse for six months).
"Gold" Level: $6,000 (sponsors one Equus horse for one year).
Please e-mail or call us at (413)841-2709 for more details. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
